STATE LINE RESOURCE STATION
OUR STORY
On September 27th, 2024 a storm system from Hurricane Helene dropped more than 25 inches of rain on Western NC, East TN, and Southwest VA. The rivers turned to dangerous oceans, the creeks to treacherous rivers, and the mountains began to fall. Thousands of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed.
On September 28th, Valentine Reilly of Kind Designs Printing launched a t-shirt presale fundraiser hoping to raise funds and start a distribution center on the west end of Watauga County. After seeing the level of destruction there, she knew it was a need that was not being met.
On September 30th, she reached out Ashley Galleher of Zionville Ramp Company about the need for a supply hub in the area near the state line. Ashley was already on the same page, and wanted to set up a hub at her business location, and had already been in contact with Wine to Water about distributing water at her site. Valentine had raised the funds to purchase much needed survival supplies, and they made a plan to meet the next morning.
On October 1st, Valentine and Ashley set up a table outside of Zionville Ramp Company, and by the end of the day - they had ran out and restocked with supplies 3x, and started to take in supply donations from others. Ashley then opened up her warehouse for the cause and the distribution center was born. By day 3, helicopters were utilizing the central location and ample space to drop supply deliveries.
Since that day, State Line Resource Station and Rural Distribution Center had served over 1,200 families, given out thousands of supplies, and helped families to find resources to meet their greater needs. In November State Line launched the Brittany's Fund Recovery Grants to get much needed financial support into the hands of those who need it the most.
For more than 3 months post the disaster, State Line hosted an amazing group of regular volunteers that showed up, and kept the center organized and efficient, as well as kept our social media up to date, and helped with every task imaginable. Both Ashley and Valentine put their respective small businesses on hold to volunteer their time, energy, resources, and in Ashley's case, the warehouse and parking lot space where State Line operated.
As of January 1st 2025, State Line ended the basic distribution of supplies out of ZRC and is now focusing on their Long Term Recovery Plan. This plan includes:
-Continuation of the Brittany's Fund Recovery Grant program, which launched in Nov 2024 providing funds directly to individuals and small businesses that sustained significant damage from Hurricane Helene.
-Establishing as a long term recovery non-profit 501c3 organization on its own, outside of our current fiscal sponsors, the wonderful Mountain Mermaids. This way we are prepared to continue to support the community as we recovery for Hurricane Helene and we can be prepared for any future economic
hardship to our area.
- Building and operating a member based tool library for Watauga, Avery, Ashe, Johnson and Carter Counties. This will allow people to access expensive tools they need as they rebuild and on future projects. We are currentlty accepting both used and new tools, as well as financial contributions to this project.
- Continuing to collect, purchase, and provide building supplies to those rebuilding their homes and small businesses on their own or with the help of volunteer organizations. We are currently accepting funds for this initiative as well as have accounts you can contribute to at New River Building Supply and
Miller's Farm Supply.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT. WE COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT THE LOVE AN SUPPORT FROM ALL OF YOU!
